I haven’t talked a lot about this show in my other posts but it is one of those crazy and amazing shows that I love to tune in to.  As an avid book lover, I have read all The Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris – which as many people know provide the basis and characters for True Blood.  From the very first book I read, I was hooked.  I loved the storyline and the characters.  I especially liked how the books progressed with certain characters.   I will not  say anymore about that because I don’t want to spoil the books for people – they should be read.  When True Blood first came out, it was my awesome big sister that told me about it…the two of us have a habit of sharing all the shows that we think the other would like…she told me about Legend of the Seeker (which I absolutely love now – many people might not be familiar with it – another show based on a book series by Terry Goodkind – which unfortunately only had two seasons but epic characters – Richard and Kahlan!!!).  I, on the other hand, introduced my sister to Sons of Anarchy – which she now watched and loves.  So, I took my big sister’s advice and watched True Blood.Well, I was hooked.  Although not totally like the books (which was to be expected) – the writers have done a good show of integrated some of the core aspects in.  Some storylines I could do without but understand why they need to be in there.  From all the seasons, season 4 was the best for me (you will understand why by the best 3 provided) but I am excited for Season 5 and that is why I wanted to dedicate a post to True Blood.

So, here are the Best 3…Reasons Why I Can’t Wait for a New Season of True Blood:

1.  Eric, Eric, Eric and Eric

2.  Russel Edgington returning

3. Sookie‘s love life

Eric Northman

Ok.  I am going to say it…I am Team Eric.  I have been from the very start and let me say, Alexander Skarsgard plays Eric Northman perfectly.  I can’t picture any one else in the role.  He is just great.  He is one of the main reasons I continue to watch True Blood, plus I love his character.  Since I don’t want to spoil anything for other people who may not have watched the show…let’s just say, Eric and Sookie are just meant to be…Again, I want to say it…I am Team Eric.

I am just so excited to see how Season 5 will progress for Eric and Sookie…there are feelings there that cannot be denied…and I think are a lot stronger than with the other guy (Bill).

If you have not seen the trailers for Season 5, I have added it.  Russell Edgington is back…and I don’t think he is happy – so that will definitely make for an interesting season.

True Blood Season 5 Trailer #1

True Blood Season 5 Trailer #2

Sookie’s love life is my last best 3 pick because as you can tell from my first pick, I want her with Eric and I would like to see more scenes of them together.  They have chemistry and she is able to love both the good and bad of Eric.  Something needs to be done this season where Sookie’s love life either gets better (with Eric) or with no one at all.

For all those people out there that do not own a pet, you should.  Pets are the greatest.  I am lucky and have two dogs – Penny, a beautiful yellow lab and Mars, a big strapping English Mastiff.   As a child, my parents would not allow pets in the house – not even fish.   I grew up in a house – sans pets and use to make friends with all the neighborhood pets.  When I was finally on my own I inherited a dog (my boyfriend who now is my husband) had the same no-pet rule in his house so he also wanted to have pets once he was older.  Therefore, I inherited my dog because he purchased Penny and a couple of years later, we moved in together and Penny joined us.  Then we wanted another dog – so we got Mars.

For me having dogs is great.  It has shown me what it means to be responsible.  I don’t have children so at this moment in my life – my dogs are my biggest responsibility.  I have to feed them, bathe them, walk them and play with them.  In return they give me unconditional love.  They wag their tails whenever I am around, hang out with me on the sofa when I am watching tv and are always willing to watch the floor for any food that might fall when I am preparing dinner.   Sure sometimes they are a pain in the butt but in the end they are the greatest…and I couldn’t imagine life without them.

So, here are the Best 3…Things About Having Pets:

1.  They love you unconditionally

2.  They make you laugh

3.  They become part of your family

For those that have a pet, think back to times when you are having an awful day (and I mean awful).  You are in no mood to see anyone, you just want to get into comfty clothing, eat your comfort food and tune the world out.  Then you open your front door and there is your pet to greet you (this might not always be the case for cats – but some do), just happy to see you , wagging their tails, eyes bright and happy.  It makes me smile because you realize they have been waiting for you and that they love you no matter what.  That isjust a great feeling that they can provide you.

As for making you laugh, that is so true.  I have never laughed so much as I do because of my dogs.  They do crazy things and you just can;t help but laugh.  I have added a crazy pet video from YouTube – watch the video and you will understand what I mean.

Pets really do become part of your family and that is great.  We bring our dogs everywhere – when we are on vacation (they are there – you have to love hotels that allow dogs – it’s great).  When we go camping – Penny has her own camp chair.  Also, usually when people ask how we are doing, they also ask about the dogs.  They are part of our family and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Well I have a few posts under my belt and have really embraced blogging.  To be perfectly honest, I truly am an average girl.  I get up, go to work, come home and go to bed.  I do not live an exciting life – sometimes I wish I did but no…I am just your plain average girl.  So that is why I changed things up and started this blog.

So, here are the Best 3…Reasons to Start a Blog:

1.  Everyone has opinions, thoughts, dreams, stories, etc…Why not YOU! Why not ME!

2.  Blogging is a healthy escape

3.  Blogging is a way to connect to the world

I think my first best 3 pick is self-explanatory.  Why not you and I sharing about the things that make up our life.  We are so different, all of us, and it is just nice to see what interests others have.  I love looking at all the other blogs out there because there are so many interesting ones to follow…and that is why I created my own.  I wanted to share all the best 3 of everything and that is what I am doing.  I don’t get the audience like some of the blogs (and I have yet to make it onto the Freshly Pressed page) but I continue because it is something that I really like to do.

Blogging is a healthy escape.  An escape from the world that surrounds us where bloggers can express what they are feeling and that is healthy.  Blogs are a place to vent, to talk about your feelings, to discuss difficult topics and however else they might be used.  I know there are some people that don’t use them as a healthy escape but those are the few…and we cannot let those be the ones to spoil.

Blogging does connect you to the world.  It allows you to interact with others all over the world from viewing other blogs to responding to comments.  I like the fact that anyone in the world can view my blog.  That is exciting and another awesome reasons to start a blog.  Plus there are so many interesting things out there is the world and blogging (and some of the amazing pictures) on some blogs help bring the world into a better view.

I hope that blogging does stick around and is not overtaken by Twitter because it is hard to only use 140 characters.

The weekend.   Aahhh the weekend…The time I look forward to, dread having to give up and dream about throughout the week.  It represents two glorious days in which there is no structure, no routine, no deadlines, no demands, no awkward conversations, no office politics and no dressing up.  The time is mine and I can set my schedule how I want.  I can do what I want and that is how I like it.

I thought about this topic for the post as my weekend was winding down (and I was dreading the start of the work week).  There is just something magical when a person is stripped (methaphorically) of the professional demeanor that we habe to have during the week and can just relax and enjoy the weekend.    I think we become different people.  I know that some of my own co-workers wouldn’t recognize me if they saw me on the weekend.

So, here are the Best 3…Things to do on a weekend:

1.  Sleep In

2.  Focus on something that makes you happy

3. Go for a walk – somewhere, anywhere

There is nothing greater than being able to sleep in on a weekend.  I know that as we get older, it seems to be harder.  Our bodies are use to getting up at a certain time (damn that alarm clock!) and that is just awful.  Really, really awful.  So, if you are one of the lucky ones to be able to sleep in…it is just an amazing experience.  I have to say, getting to sleep in and waking up after that sleep, is just divine.

My second Best 3 pick had to be to focus on something that makes you happy.  The weekend is your time.  I know for me, I love to read.  Just absolutely love it and that is what I love to do on weekend.  I grab whatever book I am ready, settle down and just read.  Whatever it is you like to do – just do it!  If it’s going to make you happy, why wouldn’t you spend your weekend time on doing it.

As for the last pick, going for a walk is something I encourage.  First it gets you out of the house, second it can take you to great places and third, it keeps you healthy.  I love walking.  Especially on the weekends when I can discover new places such as a park, walking on a beach, window shopping down a busy avenue…the possibilities are endless.

I was in my office today, working through a variety of problems that needed solving, trying to respond to email after email and trying to get through some of my workload, when I suddenly pushed away from my computer, closed my eyes and leaned back in my chair.  I could feel that annoying stress headache coming on and I wanted to try and eleviate it.  When I opened my eyes a few seconds later, my eyes readjusted and focused on the inspirational quote that I had put on wall a few weeks ago.  To be honest, when I am busy, I am so focused I wouldn’t have been looking at anything else but my work.  However my little pause and the quote below put a lot of things in perspective for me.  I forgot that I owe it myself to make sure that I get my work done but that I also enjoy my work day.

Yes, as a society we spend more time then we should at work.  I did some research and found  a survey conducted by The Bureau of Labor (US Department of Labor) that found that Americans (with children) spend an average of 8.6 hours at work.  If you look closer, it shows that people are work more hours than they sleep.  Unfortunately, I could not find a survey for Americans (without children).

With this information, my topic for this post was easy.  If we spend so much time at work, I thought it would be nice to talk about the best 3 ways to enjoy your work day.

So, here are the Best 3…Ways to enjoy your work day:

1.  Take a break

2. Listen to music

3.  Laugh

My number 1 best pick shouldn’t surprise many people.  I am one of those people that rarely take a break and I think in the end that really effects me.  Today, after my moment of reflection, I grabbed my favorite co-worker and we went for a walk.  It was a 10 minute break but it got me out of the building, into the fresh air and sunshine and away from work.  Truly, this is something that helped refresh me and made me enjoy the work day so much more, especially when you have good company or even if you just walk and listen to music.  It breaks the day up.  It gives you a sense of renewal to get what needs to be done completed, plus if you keep it up, it gives you a great way to enjoy your work day because its something you look forward too!

For my # 2 best pick, it had to be listen to music.  Whether you are in an office or a cubicle, listening to music is a great way to enjoy your work day.  It has a way of blocking out the world around you and not only helps you work but makes you happy.  I can usually be seen with my earphones in, swaying my head back and forth listening to music.  I love to stream radio stations that I like or use Grooveshark – whichis the world’s largest on-demand music streaming and discovery service.  You can sign up and create your own playlist.  I also bring in my iPod and listen to that as well.   If it is a day when I really need to concentrate, I usually stream classical music and it is amazing how well I can focus and how much work gets done.   If you have never done this, I highly encourage you too.

Best pick #3 is something that may not always be possible but is essential for enjoying your work day.  However you can manage it, please find a way to laugh, it really will make those hours go faster.  For me, I have co-workers that help with this.  They know how to have fun and we do laugh a lot.

This week has already been too long…and its only Monday.  When days like this happen (and I mean it has just been one thing after another today) I turn to ways to wind down.  Like my previous post https://mybest3ofeverything.wordpress.com/2012/03/23/best-3-things-to-quiet-the-crazy-world-around-me/ I am focusing on things that can help to quiet my mind and how to bring myself down after one exhausting day.  So, here are the Best 3…Ways to unwind after a long, tough and stressful day:

1. Put on pjs, get into bed and read

2. Take a long, hot shower (or bath)

3. Sip some hot tea

Honorable mention – a nice glass of white or red wine – that is a sure fire way to handle a hard day

My number one best choice was easy – after a long, tough and stressful day, there is no greater comfort than simply getting into my comfty pjs (flannel is usually best, unless its summer), climbing into my king size bed, and opening the book that I wish I had been reading all day.  I usually  read until I am sleepy, then I just shut off the light and go to sleep.  To me, this is the best way to relax.  I am so focused on my book, my comfty surrounding that the stress seems to melt away.

The 2nd best was a way that always works (for me).  When I get home, and the day has been like it was today, I simply strip and take a long, hot shower.  Running your head under the hot steam of water has a way of taking away the stress.  When I am more ambitious, I would usually make this a bath but in a pinch, the shower washes away the day.

As for number 3, drinking a nice, steaming cup of tea.  I can make my cup of tea, curl up on the couch and just savour the flavor.  It like the best picks above, can just relax and help wind me down.
